Job Summary & Responsibilities:
This position works from the Kitchener base and acts as a member of the organization’s leadership team. They are responsible for the day-to-day operations of the paramedic team and MTS drivers, including scheduling, training, and quality assurance.
 
Responsibilities include:
  • Communications with the medics and different departments to ensure smooth operations (Dispatch, QA, Pilots, Maintenance, etc.).
  • Required to be on-call for Medic contacts (issues, questions, concerns, etc.)
  • Responsible for planning and directing the activities of paramedics working under their supervision.
  • Responsible for the complete process of hiring of new paramedics.
  • Develop, update, and provide orientation, education, and train new employees in the use of SkyCare equipment, techniques, policies, and protocols.
  • Ensure all paramedics are properly certified and licensed. Periodically hold drills or simulated ambulance calls to evaluate and enhance the skills of the staff.
  • Maintain knowledge of current trends and developments in the field of emergency medical services.
  • Ensure that the team is following correct procedures according to company policy and all relevant laws and regulations. Sending out alerts, directives, and memos for communication with the paramedics.
  • Coordinate with medics about the responsibilities and tasks for office days
  • Review patient records to ensure that treatment plans are followed correctly.
  • Track and Audit AACRs, Plane checks, and controlled substances periodically and prepare reports.
  • Review and investigate SMS reports related to medics to determine necessary action.
  • Carry out evaluations for paramedics and make suggestions for improvements and will also make sure that paramedics receive continuous training, including training for updated procedures to improve practices.
  • Inventory management, and preventative maintenance and tracking of equipment and supplies.
  • Establish protocols and procedures for handling emergencies such as natural disasters or fires, in conjunction with other departments.
  • MTS services maintenance, scheduling, leave management, and deep cleaning.
  • Conduct periodic Base inspections.
  • Work as a flight medic to maintain certification and when needed.
 
Qualifications:
  • Diploma in a recognized Paramedic program
  • Degree in a Health Field, Health Administration, or Management considered an asset.
  • Meet all requirements under the Ambulance Act of Ontario
  • At least three years of Primary Care Paramedic experience
  • Active PCP (flight) status and certification and remains in good standing with ORNGE Base Hospital

  • Can work with others to complete tasks and solve problems.
  • Time management and multitasking
  • Ability to make quick decisions based on the information available.
  • Will be required to travel between the three bases of the company as per need.
