SkyCare provides Air Ambulance services within the Province of Ontario through a standing offer agreement managed by ORNGE. Our Medical staff are certified and work under ORNGE's Base Hospital, an industry leader in Transport Medicine, as well as SkyCare’s own Medical Director. We provide our Air Ambulance services across three bases in Ontario: Kitchener, Thunder Bay and Sioux Lookout.
SkyCare utilizes two different aircraft to accommodate the diverse needs of its patients. Our Metro aircraft are among the largest and most capable Air Ambulance platforms in the provincial system, providing bariatric and true team transport capabilities. We also utilize a Westwind Jet with best-in-class range, enabling nonstop transcontinental flights and making it an excellent tool for long-haul transfers.
In addition to various levels of care, we also specialize in different team transports, including NICU, ECMO, and others, as they become available for air transport.
SkyCare also provides private repatriation, bringing patients home from domestic destinations or international destinations in North America, Central America, and the Caribbean.

Position Summary:
The Flight Registered Nurse (F-RN) is a highly skilled critical care nurse certified to practice in an aeromedical environment. The F-RN functions both autonomously and collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary air medical crew, including paramedics, physicians, communications specialists, and pilots.
This role is responsible for providing advanced clinical care to critically ill pediatric and adult patients during air transport, ensuring safe and effective patient outcomes in a dynamic out-of-hospital environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver high-quality critical care nursing in aeromedical transport settings
- Provide comprehensive patient care during transport accordance with Provincial standards
- Perform advanced nursing interventions within scope of practice and Base Hospital directives
- Collaborate effectively with flight crew, paramedics, and dispatch teams
- Ensure patient safety during all phases of air medical transport
- Adhere to SkyCare standards and policies, ORNGE Base Hospital standards, MOH Ontario guidelines, and CNO regulations
- Participate in continuous training, simulation, and competency maintenance
- Maintain readiness for rapid deployment and 24/7 operational requirements
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN)
- Current registration in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO)
- Minimum 3 years of recent critical care (ICU/ED) experience
- Current BLS and ACLS certification (required)
- PALS, TNCC/ITLS/PHTLS, and Coronary Care Course (strong assets)
- Certification with ORNGE Base Hospital Aeromedical Program or eligibility to obtain
- Strong clinical judgment, assessment, and emergency intervention skills
- Ability to function effectively in high-acuity, time-sensitive environments
- Previous transport or flight nursing experience considered a strong asset
Training Requirements:
Successful candidates must complete mandatory SkyCare and ORNGE Flight Nurse Training and certifications including:
- Flight physiology and aeromedical theory
- Aircraft safety and emergency procedures
- Clinical simulation and scenario-based training
- Operational readiness and crew resource management (CRM)
- Approximately 13 weeks of blended online and in-person training
Schedule:
- Full-time, Permanent
- Two weeks on/two weeks off - each day could be up to 14-hour shifts,
- Based out of Kitchener or Thunder Bay
- Work performed in aircraft, remote locations, and high-acuity transport environments
Required Documentation/Certification:
Selected candidates must provide:
- Resume and Cover Letter
- BScN certificate and transcripts
- Valid CNO registration confirmation
- ICU/ED employment verification
- ORNGE Aeromedical Theory Certificate (if applicable)
- MOHLTC Aeromedical Certificate (if applicable)
- BLS, ACLS, and additional certifications
- Valid First Aid certification
- Immunization records and communicable disease clearance
- Vulnerable Sector Criminal Record Check
- Driver’s Abstract and valid G-Class license
- Passport and Birth Certificate
- N95 fit test (or completed upon hiring)
- Liability insurance proof
Compensation:
- $65.00 per hour
- Flight bonus after completion of 1 year of service
Additional Requirements:
- Must complete Skycare and ORNGE training and certification
- Must maintain ongoing clinical practice while employed
- Must meet annual ORNGE Base Hospital certification requirements
- Must be able to successfully complete all flight and safety training
- Must be eligible to work in Canada
